TRAVELING TO SOUTH AFRICA

A valid Passport is required for International travel to South Africa. A valid Driver License or government issue ID is also recommended to complete proper model and photographer releases for Paradise Challenge so please bring both. Your luggage and ALL personal belongings are subject to search during customs clearance. To reduce your chance of delays, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. Familiarize yourself with South African laws and protocols before your trip and DO NOT OVER PACK.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RULES

COVID RULES/REGULATIONS - BEFORE YOU DEPART TO SOUTH AFRICA:

  • You must have a negative COVID‑19 PCR test to fly.

  • It must be a PCR test. Antibody tests + home test kits will NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  • A traveller must provide a valid negative Polymerase Chain Reaction ( "PCR ") test certificate, obtained not more than 72 hours before the date of

  • Travel from an accredited laboratory and in line with World Health Organization requirements

  • Bring an official, printed certificate in English to check‑in at the airport. [ SMS and digital certificates ARE NOT accepted. Without a printed negative test certificate, you will not be accepted on the flight. ]

  • You can get get tested at select CVS locations in the US.

  • You must have Travel Health Insurance. This should cost less than $30 USD.

COVID RULES/REGULATIONS - IN FLIGHT TO SOUTH AFRICA:

  • Upon arrival in the port of entry, the traveller will be screened for any COVID-19 symptoms or for contact with people who have been infected with the COVID-19 virus.

  • Travelers will also need to provide proof of accommodation address should they need to  self-quarantine at the time of arrival in the country.

  • Expect social distancing and masks on board.

The risk of crime to visitors traveling to the main tourist destinations is generally low. The South African authorities prioritize protecting tourists and tourism police. Using a local guide is recommended.

  • ALCOHOL: Must be 18 years old to drink legally in South Africa Public drunkenness as well as drinking and driving are prohibited and carry hefty fines.

CULTURAL AWARENESS


DRESS CODE

  • South Africa is becoming a more open minded society however it is best to err on the side of caution in terms of dress, dress comfortably while traveling out on excursions.

  • You can wear a bikini at the beach or the pool. You can dress to impress at brunch and out clubbing.


MONEY

  • TIPPING isn’t necessarily expected in South Africa as SOME restaurants will add a tip to your bill. Taxi drivers don’t expect to receive a tip, but luggage carriers and supermarket baggers CAN be given a SMALL tip for their services. Simply put: Tip is at your discretion.

There are money exchanges conveniently located throughout the airport and resort, Rates vary slightly.

When using a debit card/ credit card, inform you bank(s) that you are traveling. It is recommended to use Rands, not your local exchange rate, when using your debit card, as that rate tends to be higher than the one your card gives you.

Currency brought into or taken from South Africa is monitored by law. Should you have South African currency exceeding R25 000 or any foreign currency, this must be declared.

  • PUBLIC DISPLAYS of AFFECTION are not considered offensive in South Africa.

ELECTRICITY/ POWER

For South Africa there are four associated plug types, types C, D, M and N. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins, plug type D is the plug which has three round pins in a triangular pattern and plug types M and N both have three round pins. South Africa operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz

Can I bring personal medication under the duty-free allowance?

Travelers may import their personal medicaments provided it is  for not more than three (3) months’ use. This must be accompanied by a prescription issued by a medical doctor.
